Flipping the (PA) House

SpotlightPA reports today that Democrats' pickup of a dozen seats, giving them control of the PA (State) House, was largely due to a decade of population shifts.  Those shifts in turn are reflected in this year's redrawing of political lines.

The practical effects for us lefties are significant.  With Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro controlling the executive branch, Democrats will have a much larger say in Harrisburg’s day-to-day agenda.  It's been reported that Democrats in the House will put forward policy priorities like:

  • raising the minimum wage
  • instituting LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections
  • blocking controversial constitutional amendments such as those advocated, during the campaign, by Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano
